July 20th 2012 : Planning permission refused for all-weather playing pitch in lands adjoining Crodaun estate.
Residents were informed today that planning permission has been refused by Kildare County Counci. Residents who had formally objected to the development recieved a registered letter from the Council outlining their decision. A number of residents had raised objections on the grounds of noise, excessive disturbance from the floodlights, proximity to housing and disturbance of the local wildlife and fauna.

June 14th 2012 : Planning permission sought for all-weather playing pitch in lands adjoining Crodaun estate.
There is a current planning permission application loged with Kildare County Council by The Glebe Montesssori School for an all-weather floodlit pitch in the field directly behind Crodaun homes.
The plans show the pitch sited in the adjoining field, within 5 metres of the dividing wall from the estate. Around 30 houses in the estate back directly onto this wall.

At an EGM on Tuesday 12th, June, a number of residents expressed their concerns over the effect of the floodlighting of the pitch, the noise levels from the users of the facilites, the traffic/parking concerns and the proximity of the pitch to many of the homes in phase 2 of Crodaun. Attendees at the meeting were also informed that Glebe school hopes to be open its school doors by September in time for the start of the new school year. There will be approx 80 pupils attending the primary school. The prefabs in the field will be moved in the coming weeks over to their final position within 5 metres of the wall at the left hand side of the entrance to Crodaun phase 2. Access to the school will be via an entrance approx half way between the phase 2 estate entrance and the roundabout
.

It was also stated at the meeting that permission has already been granted for a leisure centre in the same field. The centre is shown in a central position in the field on the plans.

Members of the public, if they wish, have until June 26th to submit their concerns to Kildare County Council on the planning application for the all-weather pitch.

The committee would welcome residents' comments. Contact the committee here

Snow at Crodaun / Castletown
The snow in January 2010 completely changed the local lanscape and we have posted some photos taken around Crodaun Forest and Castletown on our Gallery page here>>>

CASTLETOWN : SAVE YOUR RIGHT OF WAY.

Today you can freely walk through Castletown demesne! Soon this may not be the case as your access to Castletown is at risk.

The OPW plans to fence off Castletown,
 restrict access.

Castletown Action Group:

C.A.G has been to the forefront in the battle to keep Castletown open to the public and preserve the long established public rights of way. We are non-aligned and non-political. Our only goal is to maintain the rights of way that have existed for over 300 years.

In the past four years they have:

Mounted the campaign that was instrumental in the removal of the fence that was erected without permission at the Batty Langley end.

Gathered submissions of usage by local residents and presented those to K.C.C. (These submissions stated that the rights of way were used by the local public for 20, 40, and even + 60 years.)

Researched the existence of the right of way by procuring maps and other vital historical evidence.

Presented the evidence to K.C.C which resulted in them issuing an enforcement order demanding the removal of the offending fence and “to restore the established right of way”

Continued to engage with public representatives both local and national.

Organised in conjunction with others a public protest on the first occasion OPW attempted to restrict access. These protests directly lead to the OPW erecting the 24 hour pedestrian gate.

If you wish to find out further information or become actively involved in our campaign feel free to contact any of the following executive members.
